Throughout the year we collect monies from our Friday jean days and at the end of the year we decide as a team what charity we would like to donate to or help out during the holidays. This year we selected St. Vincent Catholic Charities (STVCC) again by adopting a family for the holidays. STVCC supplies us with the family and each members needs and wants list and then we break up into teams and go out into the community to purchase everything on their lists and then drop everything off with their lists to the volunteers to be able to get it to our family.
STVCC is a local non-profit that has been around since 1948 and continues to provide support to people of all beliefs and ages. They provide a number of services to our community including A Lasting Promise, adoption and foster care services, counselling services, and a refuge immigration law clinic.
Their Adopt A Family program this year included “65 donors who adopted 309 wish lists and helped 114 families from the refugee services and child welfare programs,” per their website. We were thrilled to be a part of such a fantastic program that helps so many people within our community.
