MLL Cares: Communities in Schools (CIS)-Michigan
About six years ago now Will and I decided to implement the MLL Cares: Trusted Choice for Charities program. What is this? Our agency will donate $500 each month to a local area non-profit that is referred to us by YOU, our clients. Just email mllcares@mllins.com with the name of the charity, a quick description and contact information for the charity.
The names of the charities that are referred to us go before our MLL Charity committee that consists of a team member from our service, sales and management team and they select one recipient each month. The charities that were not selected stay on our list for the following month. The more times the same charity is referred to the more weight it is given before the committee.

This month’s recipient is: Communities in Schools (CIS)-Michigan
We were recently introduced to a wonderful organization in our local schools throughout Michigan that connects students to adults and community resources as well as financial resources to help them break through barriers that get between them and a better future. This organization is made up of student peers, and alumni and for the past 30 years has been helping students to stay in school and achieve the life goals they have set for themselves.
One of the common reasons students are referred to CIS is because of poor school performance and students may have additional challenges in front of them. These may range any where from behavioral issues, food and housing, emotional, regulation, chronic absenteeism and relationship issues with students and teachers.
CIS will find the underlying causes of these problems for each student and then provide the student with the relationships that help them come to school, stay in school and then graduate with a plan for their future.
The proof is in the numbers and their results are incredible:
“In 2021-22, 99% of CIS case-managed students stayed in school.
In 2021-22, 95% of eligible CIS students graduated from high school.
In 2021-22, 88% of CIS case-managed students made progress or met their academic goals.” (www.cismichigan.org)
